Break out of your snow globe in 2018

One of my favorite movies is Lean on Me, in which Morgan Freeman played inner city high school principal Joe Clark. Do you remember this line from one of the students... "Mr. Clark don't play!" ??

I thought of this line as I read one of Dave Burgess' recent blog posts.

Dave Burgess doesn't play. 

I love his straight forward, tell-it-like-it-is style (not to mention his humor!)

I recently read his post titled, Make Your Own Snow. In the post, he tells about taking his family to a mountain ski resort community where there had been no snow! He makes the point that the ski resorts have two choices - they can complain or they can do something about it. 

And they do something about it. They make their own snow!

Dave uses this story as an analogy for educators. If there are things we don't like at our school, or opportunities that we want for ourselves, we need to do something about it.

I agree with Dave. We must not be victims of circumstances. We must take ownership of our current realities and realize how our personal choices impact on not only our lives but the lives of others. 

We choose

• the people we spend the most time with
• whether we focus on negativity or positivity
• if we focus on our "why" or focus on the what
• whether or not we get off the road to failure
• if we go this journey alone of if we are a part of a team
• our attitude and effort

Dave's post caused me to reflect on the past year, and think about the SNOW I've created for myself and others. 

Then, around the time I was letting Dave's post marinate in my head and heart, Kevin Honeycutt put out this awesome tweet...
